Derived Examination Score (DES) Online Application

Students who are significantly affected by illness or other personal circumstances in the period before or during an examination and whose examination result is unlikely to be a fair or accurate indication of their learning or achievement in the study may apply for a DES.

The purpose of a DES is to ensure that a student's final result for an examination reflects as accurately as possible the level of achievement that would be expected based on the learning and achievement they have demonstrated in the study.

Students are only eligible for a DES for a VCE examination if they meet all of the following criteria:
  • They have completed the course of study leading to the examination, and have a result for at least one other Graded Assessment in the same study.

  • They experience, in the period before or during an examination, the onset of an illness, an injury, a personal trauma or a serious intervening event, and that has either prevented them from attending the examination or significantly affected their performance during the examination

  • They provide independent professional written evidence that demonstrates the illness, injury, personal trauma or serious intervening event has affected their performance in the examination or has prevented them from attending the examination.

After logging in, access the HELP link for further information regarding the DES and applying for a DES. Students should also discuss applying for a DES with the VCE Coordinator at their school.
